Because of its brevity and frequency of updates, it's even more ephemeral than blogging itself. It is basically like text messaging, except that you can decide if you want to be a receiver or not. It has become surprisingly popular lately, with services like Twitter, Jaiku and others. Another popular form of quasi-self-expression is to display a status message about the song one is listening to at the moment, while chatting. I was told that on social networking sites people can display a wide variety of status information, like one's current mood, marital status, etc. So why not have a page where one can microblog without any effort about the website he/she is currently viewing. Basically the full browsing history. Made public. I have no idea either, why this would be useful, but it's the logical consequence of recent developments in web 2-oh. The implementation is straightforward, one installs a browser plugin that updates the server about what page the user is visiting. People then have a profile where it shows what they are viewing at the moment and since when. Great tool for discovering web pages that our friends like, without getting annoying mails of recommendation from them. Possible option for filtering out pages that are not meant to be public. blog comments powered by Disqus |
