strong encryption for web-based e-mail [more ideas]

Firefox plugin for strong e-mail encryption/decryption. Lot of people use web-based e-mail such as gmail, yahoo, etc. with more and more concerns about privacy. A simple firefox plugin would encrypt/decrypt the contents of any text box at the click of a button. That text box contains the text body or subject of an e-mail or any other text. The plugin would do the key management, be it symmetric or asymmetric encryption. Received e-mails would be decrypted automatically in the browser, the plugin would know it's an encrypted message, either because of a header, or by knowing the sender of the mail.
